| Master Composters for Schools |
Interested in promoting composting in schools?Funded through the Big Lottery Fund as part of Food For Life Partnership (FFLP), Master Composters for Schools promote and advise on composting within their own school and wider community. This can involve giving talks; training pupils in composting; running stands at school events; ensuring the school kitchen is involved in the process; and ensuring the composting message gets out through school newsletters and websites.  Compost monitor training They also support other local schools with composting issues: advising on siting of bins; potential solutions to problems; training staff and pupils; and attending events. A key element of the role of Master Composters for Schools is to ensure the FFLP message is passed on to surrounding schools. They are encouraged to ensure local schools are involved in FFLP, and as such are looking at a whole school approach to food. They may be required to support other schools with other issues relating to the FFLP process. Master Composters for Schools can be teachers; teaching assistants and support staff; caretakers and site managers; heavily-involved parents; and school catering staff. Master Composters for Schools receive a day's training provided by Garden Organic's Sustainable Waste team, and keep a record of the time they spend on their volunteering duties. They receive support in their activities from Garden Organic and FFLP. After completing 15 hours of service they "graduate" as Master Composters and receve a certificate.
