Composting at Potato Day 2012

Garden Organic hosted its annual Potato Weekend on January 28th and 29th 2012 with flocks of visitors coming to choose from over 120 varieties of potatoes that were on sale.  Visitors were welcomed to Ryton Gardens by Master Composters from Warwickshire and Leicestershire as they entered the gardens through the new Compost and Soil Fertility Garden.

Master Composters were on hand to provide advice on all things composting, visitors were invited to play the virtual compost bin competition; deciding whether various waste items can be composted.  I am pleased to announce that there were 351 entries and the winner is Sandra Aitken from Warwickshire, Sandra will receive a Wiggly Wigglers Worm Cafe kindly donated by Wiggly Wigglers.  To find out more about wormeries from Wiggly Wigglers click here .

The Compost and Soil Fertility Garden which is still undergoing maintenance was opened especially for Potato Weekend, the garden itself will be completed for Get Set Grow on 24th March marking the launch of the growing season.  Be sure to visit later in the year to see the remarkable work the gardeners have done in creating composting demonstration areas and an outdoor classroom.
